--A friend said that yesterday the Hadrosaur Memorial in Haddonfield, NJ
--was declared a "National Treasure." There wasnt' any mention of it in
--the Courier Post (the local NJ paper.) Does anyone have more
--information ?????
Actually, it was in the Courier Post on Tuesday. A color photo on front page,
and a story in section B. The event was the official declaration of the site
as a national historical site. Nothing else new about it, but this is
nonetheless an important recognition.

>>>>>>>>>> Thanks for the info, Thom. I don't usually read the
Courier Post, and am sorry I missed this one.
For those who are interested in visiting the site, the directions are:
FROM PHILA: Take the Ben Franklin Bridge; stay left after toll
and head east on Admiral Wilson Blvd. (US 30). Bear left onto Airport
Circle Ramp. Stay to left when ramp forks, then bear right at bottom
onto Rt. 70 East. Continue to Racetrack Circle. Go 1/4 way around
circle and exit on Grove Street (right). Make left turn at light onto
Maple Ave. Go to dead-end and park. Don't drive into ravine.....
FROM RT. 295 IN NEW JERSEY: Take Route 70 west to Racetrack
Circle. Go 3/4 way around circle to Grove St. and exit on Grove going
towards Haddonfield. Turn left onto Maple Avenue and proceed to
dead-end at Public Works plant. Park car on street. (I didn't write
this, I'm just passing the info along...Miki).
Anyone who wants a map, send me their FAX or snail mail address

HADROSAUR FOULKII
In 1858 the fossil remains of a dinosaur were dug out of a marlpit in
Haddonfield, New Jersey. It was a startling find: America's first
dinosaur skeleton, the most complete skeleton found in the world at
that time. In 1868 Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins came to the ANSP and
mounted the bones of Hadrosaurus, reconstructing the missing parts out
of plaster. This was the first dinosaur skeleton every mounted in a
museum.
The dinosaur was named "Foulkii" in honor of William Parker Foulke
who excavated the bones from the marlpit in 1858.
