Re: _THE_DINOSAURIA_ terminology & error
I started to compile a list of terminology that I needed definitions for in
_THE_DINOSAURIA_. These terms are used in the definition of what constitutes an
archosaur, dinosaur, and subgroups: manus, pes, antorbital fenestra, post-
frontal, postparietals, laterosphenoid ossification, intercentra, ectepicondylar
foramen, humerus, trochanter, femur, etc. etc. etc. When I started to put
together a list, I realized that this is a hopeless task. There is far too much
volume of it, and since most of the terms are technical names for anatomy (most-
ly bones?), I suspect it would be impossible to define them without a picture.
But there is one term that maybe somebody could define for me: what is
"lekking"?
By the way, there is an error in the paperback version of _THE_DINOSAURIA_. In
the article "Origin and Interrelationships of Dinosaurs" by Michael J. Benton,
Figure 1.5 on page 19 is a dinosaur cladogram. It shows two node 27's, and no
node 29. I am assuming that the node 27 labelled "gensauria" is correct, and
that the other node 27 should actually be 28, and node 28 should actually be 29.
Then on page 20, I think that the description of node 27 as "cerapoda" should
actually be "genasauria". Can anyone confirm this?
