Dear all,

I am sending this message out on behalf of my colleagues at Dinosaur
Research Institute, Fukui Prefectural University and Fukui Prefectural
Dinosaur Museum, Japan.
We would like to make a proposal for International Symposium on
Dinosaur Eggs and Babies 2016 held in Japan. A full proposal is
described below. We would be grateful if you could send us feedback on
the proposal whether you like the idea and/or how we could improve it.

As you will see in the proposal, the symposium is planned to be held
during the meeting of Palaeontological Society of Japan which will
cosponsor DEB symposium 2016. For this reason, place and dates are not
very flexible. However, other parts of the plans included in our
proposal are flexible and your suggestions for improvement would help
greatly.

Please direct any replies and comments to me, Takuya Imai:
takuya.imai.0831@gmail.com

Thank you very much in advance for your time and consideration.

Sincerely yours,
Takuya Imai

Overview

Past International Symposia on Dinosaur Eggs and Babies were
successful in providing interested researchers and students with
opportunities for presentations of ideas, discussions, and casual
interactions. The other important opportunity that a symposium could
offer is to introduce this field to the researchers and students in
different disciplines.

The 6th International Symposium on Dinosaur Eggs and Babies in Fukui
in June of 2016, which we propose, will offer this opportunity. The
symposium will be cosponsored by Palaeontological Society of Japan
(PSJ), and held during 2016 annual national meeting of PSJ in Fukui.
In the meeting, more than 100 participants, including paleontologists,
students, and general public who are interested in paleontology, are
expected. This setting should bring those who are specialized in
various fields of paleontology to the symposium and facilitate
interactions between colleagues of dinosaur eggs and babies and those
of other fields.

Fukui is one of the regions that lead recent advances in
dinosaur paleontology in Japan. It is located in the central part of
the country and characterized by unique exposure of Early Cretaceous
non-marine strata, collectively known as Kitadani Formation. The
formation has produced multiple types of eggshell fragments, one of
which likely belongs to an avian theropod. In addition, juvenile
specimens of an iguanodontid and a neovenatorid Fukuiraptor
kitadaniensis have been reported. These should be of particular
interest to potential participants of the symposium, and they will
have an opportunity to visit the site that produced most of these
specimens.

The host institution is located about 40 minutes away from
the city of Fukui by car. A number of lodging and dining spots are
available in the city. Chartered buses to take participants from and
to the city will be operated in every morning and evening during the
symposium. During late June, weather in the region is warm and humid,
with average high and low temperatures of 27 and 19 degrees Celsius,
respectively.

Potential Pre- and Post-symposium Trips

Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous Tetori Group around Hakusan and
Kuzuryu regions (2 days)
