A model/sculpture seeking feedback

Hello,

A friend of mine (Timur Mehmet) asked if I could show around a model
he's working on and see if anyone would like to provide some
constructive criticism.

One of the questions I couldn't quite answer had to do with imbricate
scales: Under what situations do they appear? Do they need to be shed
more often? Should they only appear in well protected areas?
