No-one pretends pictures cannot be useful. They of course can. Some
teeth, for instance, have serrations that are best visible on
pictures, but does that really mean that it's better to have pictures
of fossils instead of fossils? People can send you tens of pictures
but you are still unable to see *all* details as you're unable to
examine it from *all* possible angles. Also, different methods are
used to see different things and that's why there is no substitute for
seeing a specimen (you need the fossils to choose the appropriate
method).
