A new troodontid dinosaur, Xixiasaurus henanensis gen. et sp. nov., from the
Upper Cretaceous Majiacun Formation of Xixia Basin, Henan Province, is erected,
based on a partial skull.>

It's based on a very, very well preserved rostrum and partial dentary with
incomplete forelimb. The rostrum introduces some features that indicate a
complex dietary function, with small, numerous unserrated teeth, a rounded
mesial region of the snout, and a very extensive secondary bony palate where
the maxillae remain in contact with one another medially very far back (past
the anterior rim of the antorbital fenestra). Maxillary interdental plates are
variably fused to one another, with posterior plates preserving a distinct
suture whereas anteriorly they are continuous without apparent sutures.

Lü et al. propose that the new taxon is closely associated with
*Byronosaurus* and forms a clade with it and *Urbacodon*.
