I have a cynical kid under my wide-eyed scientist hat.
I'd go to the Middle Jurassic. It's the worst-sampled epoch of the
Mesozoic, in terms of terrestrial fauna. Best chance of seeing unknown
types of dinosaur -- not to mention currently hypothetical ancestors
of many clades which went on to greater success. Also a good
opportunity to see whether certain lineages were quilled or fuzzy
early on.
