Portugal and Spain once had empires too, and their cuisines are much
better than fish 'n' chips (rolled in used newspaper - with toxic
ink): actually Portuguese and Spanish cullinary was *improved* by the
influx of new ingredients from colonies.
The British Empire was able to incorporate almost exclusively just the
Chinese tea.
Maybe something makes the Northern European unable to cook (Germany,
Nordic countries, Slavic countries included) whilst Mediterranean ones
enjoy a much richer cuisine.
