Gift establishes museum endowment
A $570,000 gift to the University of Wyoming by Brainerd Nip and Anne
Mears that will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the state of Wyoming will
go to create a $1.14 million endowment fund that will help secure the
museums national profile in geological education for the future.

A task force led by Geology Professor Art Snoke has been tasked by UW
President Tom Buchanan to determine a long-range plan for a redesigned
museum that augments the universitys academic mission and further enhance
the reputation of the Department of Geology and Geophysics.
University of Wyoming Communications Director Jessica Lowell said that the
current plan to have the museum open part-time and staffed by a part-time
security guard will continue for now but that the task force will be
reviewing museum operations and coming up with a long-term plan by
semesters end.
Theres a lot of experience coming into this committee and their guidance
is do a sustainable plan, Lowell added.
Members of the planning team include the director of one of UWs other
museums or major collections; the dean of Arts and Sciences or a designee;
the director of the Science-Mathematics Teaching Center; the director of
the School of Energy Resources or a designee; the head of the Department
of Geology and Geophysics; and at least one faculty member or academic
professional from geology and geophysics.
