RE: Citing same-author-and-date papers

There's no real rule about this. If you were writing a taxonomy-related
manuscript, and you actually knew the exact dates of the two papers,
then I'd probably prefer making the paper published earlier in the year
'a', but it's not something that I would normally recommend losing sleep
over.
