Even if there was no impact, I'd imagine that in a defensive situation even the 
smaller clubbed ankylosaurs would  utilize it to ward a predator off... 
especially if they've fed relatively recently, most predatory animals will go 
elsewhere and find easier prey to tackle if they think they're in for too much 
of a fight. As seen with horned lizards, you don't need to injure your 
aggressor to drive it away!
