Well, low aspect ratio's are less efficient than high aspect ratio wings, so it
would follow birds with lower aspect ratios need to flap more to keep flying
than those with higher aspect ratios.
I think the aspect ratio could be as great as physically possible in the
ancestor, and flapping flight could still be acheived.
In fact, I think you need over a certain aspect ratio for flapping to even work
at all
