I respond (tongue in cheek) as follows...
Overheard during the wee hours as a custodian and a paleontologist collide
in the hallway at a natural history museum:
"Hey!  You got scum on my _T. rex_ tissue!"
"Hey!  You got _T. rex_ tissue on my scum!" 
 
Please note that I understand that that this is not the explanation Dave
Unwin proposes, and that I acknowledge that the New Scientist article such
as it is differs from the article Jeff Hecht submitted for publication.
