One of the best Cowboy books I've ever read is  James H. Cook _Fifty Years on 
the Old Frontier as Cowboy, Hunter, Guide, Scout. and Ranchman_ 1923 Yale 
University Press 1923 which contains a Supplementary Chapter "The Agate Springs 
Fossil Beds" 

Would anyone be able to forward me a copy of the Vetter "Cowboys, Scientists, 
and Fossils" paper?
