Re: Bonestell's Evolution Of the Earth
Thank you Dan, doubly: for the break from the phylomarathon, and for
jogging early memories of Bonestell-induced wonder. He had a similar
impression on me, he and Burian.

Taking a break from the "File-O-Code" (gasp!) stuff. Back in 1955
Life
magazine published a series of articles and a book titled, "The
World We Live In".
This was the project that made Rudolph Zallinger's Yale dinosaur
murals
famous. As a six year-old kid, however, none of the images
presented impressed me
as much as Chesley Bonestell's paintings. The one that really got
to me is
now up for auction at eBay. The painting shows the earth from its
origin to
its distant end. When I saw this, the concept of enormous time
began to sink
into my little brain. It was wonderful and frightening at the same
time. I
believe the Boston Museum of Science owned this at one time. I
wish all the
paintings from this project could be rephotographed and reproduced
once again. I
hope this one finds a good home. DV
