Summer Intern Position

The Pioneer Trails Regional Museum located in Bowman, North Dakota has an internship position available for an individual for the summer of 2006. This position is available for an advanced undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in paleontology, stratigraphy or other closely related field. Coursework required for consideration includes physical geology, historical geology, general paleontology and stratigraphy and/or sedimentation. In exceptional cases, field and/or laboratory experience may be considered in place of advanced coursework.

Factors that will be considered include: research experience in paleontology or stratigraphy, field and lab experience and knowledge about the geology in the northern Great Plains, (particularly late Mesozoic and early Cenozoic). The position requires excellent public communications skills, good physical condition to access remote outcrops and the ability to perform physical labor. All applicants must also provide a copy of their current driving record along with their application.

The position will involve conducting educational tours for the general public to our paleontological sites, mapping and field collecting of vertebrate and paleobotany specimens for the museum, laboratory preparation and curation of specimens and assisting with research projects of the museum.

The term of the 2006 Summer Internship is from June 5, 2006 through August 19, 2006 at the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum in Bowman, North Dakota. The internship salary is $300.00 per week. Housing is the
responsibility of the individual upon arriving in Bowman, however, the museum will assist in locating housing if desired. The Intern will also receive training in all aspects of our summer program upon arriving.
