Doesn't this also hold for, say, rodents?

As for "nodosaurid" cheek armor -- this was already presented as textbook 
wisdom (and illustrated) in 1983, in David Lambert's A Field Guide to the 
Dinosaurs. (Don't ask me how published it was before then.)
