For those of you interested in a bit of history regarding American 
paleontology, I've added a page to the Oceans of Kansas website about the 
work of Charles H. Sternberg in the Smoky Hill Chalk. It includes links to 
on-line versions (ePapers) of most of his brief but interesting 
publications, and excerpts from his two books: "Life of a Fossil Hunter" and 
"Hunting Dinosaurs in the Badlands of the Red Deer River, Alberta, Canada."

While Charlie was certainly not the model of a well-educated 19th Century 
gentleman paleontologist (Cope and Marsh come to mind here), he added a 
different dimension to the relatively new science of paleontology and left a 
legacy of spectacular fossil discoveries that are still found in museums 
around the world.
