No, actually it was the metriorynchosaurs, who started
using sand dollars for purchasing prey from primitive
(and easily swindled) icthyosaurs during the Late
Triassic.... the icthyies' focal abilities didn't work
well out of water, and they couldn't discern 20's from
10's.
