fossil/subfossil birds of North America

HI:
 I have a couple of questions about fossil/subfossil birds of North
America:
1) Has anyone come up with a total number of species recorded in the
fossil/subfossil record for North America?

2) Are there fossil/subfossil species of birds in North America that were
present when humans first colonized North America that are extinct now?
