Delurking again.

I was wondering if ya'll could give me some advice
about scanning articles into the computer.

Over the years I've accumulated several file cabinets
worth of journal articles on various subjects.

They are taking over my very limited space.  I don't
want to throw them out as I might need them so I was
thinking of scanning them into the computer.

Has anybody done this?  What type of scanner did you
use and what program?  My brother said something about
an OCR program that would scan it and convert it to a
text file or something like that.

What happens to graphs and things like that? Are they
converted to tiffs or something like that?

It anybody could give me some advice I would greatly
appreciate it.
