blood feather questions
Has anyone found evidence of blood feathers/pin
feathers in any well-preserved dinosaur or bird
fossil? Could blood feathers represent the structure
dinosaurian "hair" evolved from? Or are there any
reasons why this would be implausible? The brooding
hypothesis would make even more sense if feathers not
only insulated the bearers eggs, but the blood
coursing through them actively warmed offspring. Could
multiple pterylae of blood feather-like projections
atop large theropods or sauropods have helped vent
excessive heat from their bodies? Any literature
addressing these questions would be helpful.
Many thanks,
W. Rowley
