Chelonians and Small et al's Archosauromorph
One of the most remarkable abstracts in the SVP
collection was the one by Small et al titled:
AN UNUSUAL LATE TRIASSIC ARCHOSAURIFORM FROM GHOST
RANCH NEW MEXICO
Here they describe an archosauriform with fangs and
serrated teeth- hence apparently not an aetosaur or
desmatosuchian. It is said to lack supratemporal,
antorbital and external mandibular fenestrae. Does
this remind you all of something???
Could it be the archosauromorph ancestor of the
turtles!
And sure enough its body is covered with a layer of
scutes, the abstract states. I understand from
molecular evolutionists that the case for the turtles
being closer to archosaurs rather and lepidosaurs is
very strong.
Just can't wait to see this published
