  The problem with this is that this vulture, the bearded vulture or
lammergeier, is not a vocational carrion-feeder, but a specialist in the
bits and pieces, and tends to be one of the final animals on the scene at
a corpse. It has no need to stick its head inside corpses.

  Other vultures that typically have feathers on the head include the king
and Egyptian vultures, which are some of the first birds on the scene, and
specialize in rendering the tough skin of the prey and surface material,
and are satisfied. These birds also do not typically stick their necks in
the corpses.
