Re: A sad day in Paleontology

Ekaterina said, "...The last book I saw of his- some time in the early
1990s was revised version of Evolution of the Vertebrates had still not
adopted cladistics- any reason for this-what were his view on this?"

I don't know the answer to the question, but the last book by Edwin H.
Colbert of which I am aware was, THE LITTLE DINOSAURS OF GHOST RANCH,
Columbia university Press, New York and Chichester, West Sussex, 1995, ISBN
0-231-08236-3. It is a book that covers the Ghost Ranch/Coelophysis in
wonderful detail. It is wonderfully well illustrated.

Colbert also did a biography of William Diller Matthew (an early
paleontologist) that was also published by Columbia, in 1992.

He also wrote DIGGING INTO THE PAST and THE GREAT DINOSAUR HUNTERS AND
THEIR DISCOVERIES.

The kindly countenance of 'Ned' Colbert will surely be missed not only
by those who knew him personally, but by lovers of paleontology far and wide
who were touched by his enriching contributions to our field of interest.
