dyrosaur habitat
Naturalists have determined that, contrary to its name, the saltwater (or esuarine) crocodile's optimum habitat is freshwater; "the saltier the water, the worse the crocodile habitat." Occasional excursions of C. porosus out at sea represent migration in search of new freshwater habitats, not adaptation to a pelagic existence. Such migrations are analogous to Nile crocodiles travelling overland to find new freshwater habitats. Basically limited to freshwater estaurine environments, dyrosaurs were vulnerable to tomistomine competition in the Eocene. There is no need to invoke Popigai to explain their demise.
