Thanks to Mickey for the introduction!  As anyone who's checked out
the work-in-progress at
http://www.miketaylor.org.uk/dino/faq/index.html
will know, there's a lot of work to be done -- plenty of questions and
hardly any answers.

I'd like to kick off by asking:

        Which scientific disciplines need to be understood in order to
        study dinosaurs? Obviously classification, vertebrate anatomy
        and some geology are useful, but that's presumably not
        everything.

The replies I get to this question will not only get moulded into this
question's answer in the FAQ, but will also help to determine what
other questions get asked.

For this question and all subsequent ones, please send answers either
directly to me at <mirk@mail.com> or to the new mailing list at
<dinofaq@egroups.com>, which I recently set up for just this purpose.
I'm doing it this way in an attempt to prevent this list from getting
clogged up with a lot of discussion of elementary subjects that most
DINOSAUR list members won't want to be bothered with; however, anyone
who would like to see what answers are being given is very welcome to
subscribe to the dinofaq list -- see the list's home page at

for details on how to join, plus an archive of old postings, etc.
