CHILLY REPTILES

The assertion that reptiles cannot live in cold climates is odd, since
alligators historically lived as far north as old Virginia, and other reptiles
dwell even further north. Gators can even survive near freezing water. These
points are discussed in my paper on polar dinosaurs in J. Paleont. 62:640.

It should also be considered that, as far as I know, no trace of reptiles have
been found associated with the abundant North Slope Alaska dinosaur faunas
from ~70 Myr ago. This suggests freezing winter conditions too severe for
reptiles.
