Dinosaur Genera List corrections #80

This year's SVP meeting generated several new dinosaur taxa, so let me get
right on it. The biggest source of new genera and species was a copy of the
new book _Sino-Japanese Silk Road Dinosaur Expedition_, edited by Dong
Zhiming, pubished by China Ocean Press, Beijing, 1997. ISBN 7-5027-4298-0.
viii + 114 pp. This is the book cited as Dong Z., ed., 1997 below. Thanks to
Phil Currie for lending Tracy and me his copy for this information.

Dong Z., 1997. "A Small Ornithopod from Mazongshan Area, Gansu Province,
China," in Dong Z., ed., 1997: 24-26.

Features new genus and species _Siluosaurus zhangqiani Dong, 1997_, based on
two teeth. Silu: Chinese for "Silk Road."

Lu Junchang, 1997. "A New Iguanodontidae (_Probactrosaurus mazongshanensis_)
sp. nov.) from Mazongshan Area, Gansu Province," in Dong Z., ed., 1997:
27-47.

Features the title species, based on the posterior part of a skull and
referred postcrania.

Xu Xing, 1997. "A New Psittacosaur (_Psittacosaurus mazongshanensis_ sp.
nov.) From Mazongshan Area, Gansu Province," in Dong Z., ed., 1997: 48-67.

Features the title species, based on a skull, vertebrae, and forelimb.

Dong Zhiming & Yoichi Azuma, 1997. "On a Primitive Neoceratopsian from the
Early Cretaceous of China," in Dong Z., ed., 1997: 68-89.

Features new genus and species _Archaeoceratops oshimai_ Dong & Azuma, 1997,
in new family Archaeoceratopsidae Dong & Azuma, 1997 at the base of
Neoceratopsia, including besides the nominal genus the genera _Microceratops_
and _Kulceratops_. _Archaeoceratops_ is based on a nearly complete skeleton
lacking the forelimbs.

Dong Zhiming & Yu Hailu, 1997. "A New Segnosaur from Mazongshan Area, Gansu
Province, China," in Dong Z., ed., 1997: 90-95.

Features new species _Nanshiungosaurus bohlini_ Dong & Yu, 1997, based on a
series of 16 presacral vertebrae. Also creates new family Nanshiungosauridae
Dong & Yu, 1997 within order Segnosaurischia Dong, 1992 (a synonym of
Segnosauria).

Dong Zhiming, 1997. "A Gigantic Sauropod (_Hudiesaurus sinojapanorum_ gen. et
sp. nov.) from the Turpan Basin, China," in Dong Z., ed., 1997: 102-110.

Features the title genus (Hudie: Chinese for "butterflies," referring to the
shapes of the wingllike processes on the neural spines of the anterior dorsal
vertebrae), estimated length 29-30m, based on four teeth, a forelimb, and a
first dorsal vertebra 65 cm tall. Referred to Mamenchisauridae.

The new _Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs_ edited by Currie & Padian features the
_nomen nudum_ _Limaysaurus tessonei_ in the article on South American
dinosaurs by F. Novas. The genus is new but the species has already been
described by Calvo and Salgado as _Rebbachisaurus tessonei_, and since I've
known about _Limaysaurus_ for several years, I suspect that _Rebbachisaurus
tessonei_ was a last-minute name-change for a species that was initially
going to be described as _Limaysaurus tessonei_, but someone forgot to change
it in Novas's encyclopedia article. So _Limaysaurus_ Calvo & Salgado vide
Novas, 1997 is a junior synonym of _Rebbachisaurus_ and/or a _nomen nudum_.

Finally, the Cedar Mountain ceratopian _Zuniceratops christopheri_ is named
as a _nomen nudum_ in the October 1997 issue of _Geotimes_ (p. 14) in a news
article by Wolfe. _Zuniceratops_ becomes alphabetically the last name in the
List.

So the Genera List corrections include:

(1) change status and authors of _Archaeoceratops_ and _Hudiesaurus_ to:

Archaeoceratops Dong & Azuma, 1997
Hudiesaurus Dong, 1997

(2) add genera #812-814:

Limaysaurus Calvo & Salgado vide Novas, 1997 [nomen nudum]
Siluosaurus Dong, 1997
