I am not sure that it would have gotten *that* dark.  Those climate
models I trust the most suggest fairly rapid exponential removal of
the dust following the impact.  This means that true darkness would
only last days or weeks, at most.  The small remaining dust load
would mostly change temperature and rainfall regimes.

It really is interesting that the most dramatic, and least realistic,
models of the effects of an impact of that type are the ones that
persist.
