cheap books at Borders

I was in a local Borders book store and found a couple of things that
may be of interest.

Look in the sale shelves for:

Eldredge, N. (1991). _Fossils: The Evolution and Extinction of
Species_, Harry N. Abrams, Inc., New York. (ISBN 0-8109-3305-5)
    (LC QE711.2.E47)

I don't know how much it originally cost (I'd guess somewhere in the
neighborhood of $40), but on sale it was just under nine dollars. If
you're interested, I suggest you look quickly because things tend not
to last long on the sales shelves. The book is mostly photographs
(which could be a good thing -- the _Oviraptor_ nest is called a
_Protoceratops_ nest ;-) If you like looking at the raw data of
paleontology, you'll love this book. Beware, though, that there's a
lot of invertebrate stuff. Nobody but Chris Nedin will care about
those sections |-)

My other find was in the biology section. My apologies if this is
old news, but the book which accompanied A&E's four part series has
been reissued as a small paperback. The original was coffee table
book size and was appropriately priced. The new version is
(coincidentally) just under nine dollars. In any case, the book is:

Norman, D. (1991). _Dinosaur!_, Macmillan, Inc., New York. (ISBN
     0-02-860434-2) (LC QE862.D5N669)

The copyright date corresponds to the text (so it's a bit dated), but
this version appears to have come out less than a year ago. David
Norman also wrote _The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs_, so I'm
sure the book is top notch (I bought a copy today but haven't read it
yet). If you don't yet want to spend $45 for Fastovsky and
Weishampel's book, you might console yourself with this one.
