eggs and I

John Bois states that the most vulnerative time in an egg laid
individual is when the eggs are layed (and I think he means when they
are in the ground). This just isn't so. The Green turdle lays eggs
every three years, some times as many as thirty cluches in that
time. Some but not many of the cluches are found and most of the eggs
still lay buried. Then the little turdles come truging out and will be
decimated (twice over) so that only one of a hundred make to the next
repoduction cycle. They are obviously more vulnerable in the
sea. (reference PBS) It really seems that the same is true for little
crocs (why else would mom take care of them), etc..
