plural of "archaeopteryx"

Randy King asked what the plural of "archaeopteryx" is.

The second element in the name is the Greek word "pteryx" (wing),
which has the plural "pteryges." So the plural *should* be
"archaeopteryges" (like the plural of "rhinoceros" should be
"rhinocerotes"). Pronunciation? Probably accent on the Y,
pronounced like long I, and "ges" pronounced "jeez"...
It's doesn't seem likely this will catch on. How about "archies"?
