Re: Deccan Traps

The Deccan traps, in laymans terms are a huge series of lava outpourings 
in India that covered a very large area with an enormous volume of trap 
rock (basalt). The volume was so large that various theories of climate 
modification and a variety of other effects have been suppositionally 
blamed on the flow. There have been other large flows in geologic time 
but I believe the Deccan traps are the largest known. The Columbia River 
basalts of our Pacific northwest are another great series of lava flows 
that gave rise to the rich soild of that area. Hows that?
