Re: Extinction



Those of us that are inclined to believe that an impact was largely
responsable for what happend at the K/T boundary also have to come up
with some good models for exactly what a large impact would do to the
world wide ecosystem to cause a mass extinction.  Would it set off a
chain reaction spreading the effects over thousands or hundreds of
thousands of years?  Or would it be like a giant hammer blow that just
wiped out everything at once?  Maybe some combination.  Do we even know
how far a planetary ecosystem needs to be tipped in order for it to
crash?  Lots of questions, but only rudimentary answers so far.
