A couple of questions
Hi folks;
I have a couple of questions for the list. One is probably an urban legend,
the other, well you'll see.
(1) I remember as a boy in the late 50's , early 60's I read an article about
a person finding a _LIVE_ Pterodactyl or Pteradon, I can't remember. I think
it was in a cave somewhere and might have been encased in ice or rock. As
I remember the "tale", it flapped a few times, and died. I realize that most
of this is probably pure BS, but I was wondering if anyone else remembers
this story. Is there perhaps a more plausible version of this story? What
kinds of flying dinosaur fossils have been recovered, and have any been in
a complete or close to complete form? I would appreciate any information on
flying Dinosaurs as they are my favourite dinosaurs. I am more interested in
the Pterodactyls and Pteradons then in Archeoptrix (sp?).
(2) In a recent episode of "Northern Exposure", a frozen Wooly Mammoth is
unearthed and before anyone from a university can examine it, it is hauled
away and butchered by an eccentric old character. Have there been many finds
of frozen Mammoths/Mastodons in the Northern reaches of Canada/Alaska? Do you
think it is probable that this flesh would be edible after 10,000 yrs plus?
I wonder if the Inuit have found and eaten these in recent times?
Just a note to all the knowledgable members of this list;
It is a real joy to read the discussions on this list daily and although
I have no formal training in dinosaurs, I have gleaned much info from this
braintrust. I have lived in Calgary all my life and have visited the Badlands
by Drumheller many times since I was a small boy. I have been to the Royal
Tyrell Museum of Paleontology many times with my father and now with my own
children. I wish to express my thanks to the time put in to some of the more
detailed and obviously passionate posts that can be read here everyday. I, for
one, appreciate the effort.
Thanx
