Water Creatures

I was thinking about plesiosaurs the other day.  What an unusual creature
they were!  I can't think of any other aquatic creature, past or present,
with such a long neck.  Most have hardly any neck at all, which seems to
aid in travel through water.  Sea creatures bend their bodies back and
forth, propelling themselves through the water.  Did plesiosaurs do a
similar motion?  If not, didn't their necks get in the way of efficient
movement through water?  Or, did they hold their necks above water much
of the time?  Or, were they not concerned with speedily moving their bodies
through the water, floating slowly about like manatees, but darting their
heads here and there for food?
