Temperature change

In our quest for knowledge and learning about all of the dinosaurs, we 
have run across a new question:

If the temperature of the environment when the dinosaurs lived was warmer 
(hotter) than current temperatures on earth, How hot was the temperature 
when dinosaurs lived?  And how much would the temperature need to change 
in order to cause the extinction of the dinosaurs?  How could that have 
really happened?
